Ingredients
- 1 cup rice flour
- 1 cup grated beetroot
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup jaggery
- 1/2 cup grated coconut
- 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
- 1 tbsp ghee
- Salt, as per taste
Instructions:
Step 1: Making the filling
- In a pan, add grated coconut and jaggery.
- Cook on low flame until the jaggery melts and the mixture thickens.
- Add cardamom powder and mix well.
- Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool down.
Step 2: Making the dough
- In a pan, add water, ghee, and salt. Bring it to a boil.
- Once the water comes to a boil, reduce the heat and add rice flour.
- Mix well and turn off the heat.
- Cover the pan and let the mixture rest for 5 minutes.
- After 5 minutes, add grated beetroot and knead the dough well.
Step 3: Shaping the Modaks
- Take a small portion of the dough and make a ball.
- Flatten the ball using your fingers to form a cup-like shape.
- Place a spoonful of the filling in the center.
- Gather the edges of the dough together to form a peak at the top.
- Repeat the process with the remaining dough and filling.
Step 4: Steaming the Modaks
- Take a steamer and fill it with water.
- Grease the steamer plate with ghee.
- Arrange the modaks on the plate.
- Steam the modaks for about 10-12 minutes.
- Turn off the heat and let the modaks cool down.
