How To make Mawa Gujiya? | Instant Mawa Gujiya Recipe
Mawa Gujiya is a traditional Indian sweet that is often prepared during festivals like Holi and Diwali. It is a crescent-shaped pastry filled with a mixture of sweetened mawa (reduced milk), nuts, and coconut. Here is a step-by-step recipe for making Mawa Gujiya.
Here is a breakfast recipe that is easy to prepare and delicious to eat.
Ingredients
For the dough:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (maida)
- 1/2 cup ghee or unsalted butter
- Water as required
For the filling:
- 1 cup mawa (khoya)
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup desiccated coconut
- 2 tbsp chopped almonds
- 2 tbsp chopped cashews
- 1 tbsp raisins
- 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
For frying:

- For garnishing:
- Powdered sugar
Instructions:
- To make the dough, take 2 cups of all-purpose flour (maida) in a large mixing bowl. Add 1/2 cup of ghee or unsalted butter to it.
- Rub the flour and ghee/butter between your palms to form a crumbly mixture.
- Add water little by little and knead the mixture to form a smooth and firm dough. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and keep it aside for 30 minutes.
- To make the filling, crumble 1 cup of mawa (khoya) in a non-stick pan.
- Add 1/2 cup of powdered sugar to the pan and mix well.
- Keep stirring the mixture on low heat until the sugar melts and combines well with the mawa.
- Add 1/4 cup of desiccated coconut to the pan and mix well.
- Add 2 tablespoons each of chopped almonds and cashews to the pan.
- Add 1 tablespoon of raisins and 1/2 teaspoon of cardamom powder to the pan.
- Mix all the ingredients well and cook the mixture for 2-3 minutes until it becomes thick and dry. Keep the mixture aside to cool down.
- Take the dough and divide it into small lemon-sized balls.
- Roll each ball into a small disc of about 3-4 inches diameter.
- Place a spoonful of the filling mixture on one side of the disc.
- Fold the other half of the disc over the filling to form a half-moon shape. Seal the edges of the gujiya by pressing them with a fork.
- Prepare all the gujiyas in the same way.
- Heat ghee or vegetable oil in a deep frying pan.
- Once the oil is hot, carefully slide a few gujiyas into the oil.
- Fry the gujiyas on medium heat until they become golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the gujiyas from the pan using a slotted spoon and drain the excess oil on a tissue paper.
- Allow the gujiyas to cool down to room temperature.
- Once the gujiyas are cool, sprinkle some powdered sugar on them and serve them.
- Your delicious Mawa Gujiyas are now ready to be enjoyed!
