- 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
- A pinch of saffron strands
- 1 tablespoon chopped nuts (almonds, cashews, and pistachios)
- 1 tablespoon ghee (clarified butter)
Instructions:
- Heat a pan and add a tablespoon of ghee to it. Once the ghee has melted, add the makhana and roast it on medium heat until it becomes crispy and golden brown. This will take around 5-7 minutes. Keep stirring the makhana so that it doesn’t burn.
- Once the makhana is roasted, remove it from the pan and let it cool down. Once it has cooled down, coarsely grind it in a food processor or a mixer grinder.
- In the same pan, add 4 cups of milk and bring it to a boil. Keep stirring the milk so that it doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan.
- Once the milk has come to a boil, lower the heat and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes until it thickens slightly.
- Add the coarsely ground makhana to the milk and stir well. Let it cook for 5-7 minutes on low heat.
- Add sugar and stir until it dissolves. Keep stirring the kheer so that it doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan.
