Ingredients
For the dough:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1/2 cup lukewarm water
- 1/4 cup yogurt
For the filling:
- 1 lb ground lamb or beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 2 green chilies, chopped
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- Salt, to taste
- 2 tbsp oil
For the topping:
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
- Fresh coriander leaves, chopped
- Nigella seeds (optional)
Instructions:
- To make the dough, mix together the flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder in a bowl.
- Add in the oil and mix until the mixture resembles bread crumbs.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the water and yogurt.
- Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for 5-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.
- While the dough is resting, make the filling. Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add in the onions, garlic, ginger, and green chilies and sauté until the onions are translucent.
- Add in the ground meat and cook until browned.
- Add in the coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well and cook for another 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let the filling cool.
- Preheat your oven to 450°F.
- Divide the dough into 6 equal portions.
- Take one portion and roll it out into an oval shape.
- Place a spoonful of filling in the center of the dough.
- Fold the sides of the dough over the filling and pinch the edges to seal it.
- Roll out the stuffed dough gently, making sure the filling doesn’t spill out.
- Brush the top with melted butter and sprinkle with coriander leaves and nigella seeds, if using.
- Bake the naan on a baking sheet for 8-10 minutes, until golden brown.
- Repeat with the remaining dough and filling.
- Serve hot with raita or chutney.
