Ingredients
-
- 500g ripe jamun fruit
- 1 cup khoya/mawa (dried whole milk)
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (maida)
- 1/4 tsp baking powder
- 1 tbsp ghee (clarified butter)
- 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
- Oil, for deep frying
For the Jaggery Syrup:
-
- 1 cup jaggery
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
Instructions:
- To make the jaggery syrup, add the jaggery and water to a pan and heat on medium heat until the jaggery dissolves completely. Stir occasionally to prevent the mixture from burning.
- Once the jaggery dissolves, reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 8-10 minutes, until it thickens slightly.
- Add the cardamom powder to the syrup and turn off the heat. Keep the syrup aside.
- Wash and deseed the jamun fruit. Add the jamun fruit to a blender or food processor and blend until it becomes a smooth puree.
- Heat ghee in a pan on medium heat. Add the jamun puree to the pan and cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add the khoya to the pan and mix well with the jamun puree. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the mixture becomes thick.
- Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool down. Once cooled, add the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and cardamom powder to the mixture and mix well.
- Knead the mixture until it becomes smooth and forms a dough.
- Divide the dough into small equal-sized portions and shape them into small balls.
- Heat oil in a pan on medium heat. Once the oil is hot, reduce the heat to low and add the jamun balls to the oil.
- Fry the jamun balls until they turn golden brown, stirring occasionally to ensure they cook evenly. Remove from the oil and drain the excess oil.
- Add the fried jamun balls to the jaggery syrup and let them soak in the syrup for at least 30 minutes.
- Serve the jaggery jamun warm or chilled, garnished with chopped nuts if desired.
And that’s it! Follow these simple steps to make delicious jaggery jamun at home. Enjoy!
