Modak is a popular Indian sweet that is typically made during the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi. Traditionally, it is made with rice flour dough and filled with a mixture of jaggery and coconut. However, there are many variations of modak, and in this recipe, we will be making Flax Seed and Beetroot Modak.
Here is a breakfast recipe that is easy to prepare and delicious to eat.
Ingredients
- 1 cup flax seeds
- 1/2 cup grated beetroot
- 1/2 cup grated jaggery
- 1/4 cup grated coconut
- 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
- 1 tbsp ghee
- 1/4 cup water
- Modak moulds
Instructions:
- Dry roast the flax seeds in a pan over medium heat for 2-3 minutes until they start to pop. Remove from heat and let cool.
- Once cooled, grind the flax seeds in a mixer or blender until they form a coarse powder.
- In a pan, heat the ghee and add the grated beetroot. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the beetroot is slightly tender.
- Add the grated jaggery to the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes until it melts and forms a thick syrup.
- Add the grated coconut and cardamom powder to the pan and mix well.
- Add the flax seed powder to the pan and mix until all the ingredients are well combined.
- Add 1/4 cup of water to the mixture and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the mixture becomes thick and sticky.
- Remove the mixture from heat and let it cool.
- Take the modak moulds and grease them with ghee.
- Take a small portion of the mixture and fill the moulds. Press the mixture gently with your fingers to ensure that it fills the mould completely.
- Repeat this process with the remaining mixture.
- Once all the moulds are filled, gently remove the modaks from the moulds and place them on a plate.
- Allow the modaks to cool completely before serving.
- Your Flax Seed and Beetroot Modaks are now ready to be enjoyed! This recipe is not only delicious but also healthy, as flax seeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids and fiber, while beetroot is a good source of vitamin C, iron, and antioxidants.
