Dal Parantha is a popular North Indian dish made with lentil filling stuffed in a crispy and flavorful flatbread. It is a delicious and nutritious dish that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Here’s a recipe for Dal Parantha that you can try at home:

Here is a breakfast recipe that is easy to prepare and delicious to eat.

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 2 cups wheat flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp oil
  • Water, as needed

For the Filling:

  • 1 cup moong dal (yellow lentils)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp ginger, grated
  • 1 tsp garlic, minced
  • 1 green chili, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil

For Cooking:

  • Ghee, as needed
  • Wheat flour, for dusting

Instructions:

  • To make the dough, in a mixing bowl, add wheat flour, salt, oil and mix well.
  • Gradually add water and knead to form a soft dough. Cover the dough and let it rest for 10-15 minutes.
  • To make the filling, rinse the moong dal thoroughly and soak it in water for 30 minutes.
  • After 30 minutes, drain the water and transfer the dal to a pressure cooker. Add 2 cups of water and salt, and pressure cook for 2-3 whistles or until the dal is cooked well.
  • Once the pressure is released, open the cooker and mash the dal well.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds and let it splutter.
  • Add chopped onions and sauté till they turn translucent.
  • Add ginger, garlic, and green chili and sauté for a minute.
  • Add coriander powder, red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder and mix well.
  • Add the mashed dal to the pan and mix well. Cook the dal mixture for 5-7 minutes or until it becomes dry.
  • Take the dough and divide it into equal-sized balls.
  • Dust the ball with wheat flour and roll it into a small circle.
  • Place a tablespoon of the dal mixture in the center of the circle.
  • Bring the edges of the dough together to cover the dal mixture and seal it properly.
  • Dust the stuffed ball with wheat flour and roll it gently into a flat disc.
  • Heat a tawa or griddle on medium heat.
  • Place the rolled parantha on the tawa and cook until small bubbles appear on the surface.
  • Apply ghee on top of the parantha and flip it over. Cook until both sides are golden brown.
  • Repeat the same process for the remaining dough and dal mixture.
  • Serve the hot and crispy dal parantha with yogurt, pickle, or chutney of your choice.
